Transgender Welfare Scheme

The Transgender Welfare Scheme is a progressive initiative dedicated to uplifting and empowering the transgender community by addressing their social, economic, and psychological needs. Recognized under the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019, this scheme ensures access to healthcare, education, livelihood, shelter, and legal support.

The initiative promotes social inclusion, respect, and self-reliance, ensuring that transgender individuals live with dignity and have equal opportunities in every sphere of life.

Objectives

  • To ensure equal rights and opportunities for transgender persons.

  • To provide financial assistance, healthcare, and vocational training.

  • To promote social acceptance and dignity through awareness.

  • To support rehabilitation, shelter, and legal aid services.

  • To foster economic independence through entrepreneurship and jobs.

  • Free health insurance coverage under AB-PMJAY (up to ₹5 lakhs/year)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a recognized transgender person as per the Transgender Persons Act

  • Must have a Transgender ID Card issued by the National Portal

  • Indian citizen, aged 18 years or above

  • Preference to those from low-income and marginalized backgrounds

  • Should not be receiving similar benefits under other state schemes (if applicable)

Application Process

  • Register on the National Transgender Portal: https://transgender.dosje.gov.in

  • Apply for Transgender Certificate and ID Card online.

  • Submit required documents: Aadhaar, self-declaration form, photo, etc.

  • Once ID is approved, access scheme benefits from the welfare department.

  • Apply for specific schemes (scholarship, skill training, shelter, etc.) using your Transgender ID.

  • Track application status and avail support from district nodal officers.
