Post Matric Scholarship for Scheduled Tribe (ST) Students

The Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for ST Students is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, aimed at encouraging Scheduled Tribe students to pursue higher education after Class 10. This centrally sponsored scheme ensures that financial constraints do not become a barrier to education by covering tuition fees, maintenance allowance, and other essential expenses.

The scholarship applies to a wide range of post-matriculation courses including diplomas, undergraduate degrees, postgraduate degrees, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs.

Objectives

  • To increase the enrollment and retention of ST students in higher education institutions

  • To reduce dropout rates at the secondary and tertiary levels

  • To empower tribal youth through academic and professional development

  • To improve the socio-economic status of tribal communities through education

eligibility Criteria

  • The applicant must belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community

  • Must be a permanent resident of India

  • Must have passed Class 10 (matriculation) or equivalent from a recognized board

  • Must be pursuing a recognized post-matric course (Class 11 onwards) in a recognized institution

  • Annual family income from all sources should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh

  • Students must not be receiving any other scholarship for the same course

Benefits Covered Under the Scheme

  1. Maintenance Allowance

    • Paid monthly for the entire academic year (including vacation)

    • Amount varies depending on the course and the student’s residential status (hosteller or day scholar)

  2. Reimbursement of Compulsory Non-Refundable Fees

    • Tuition fee, library fee, laboratory fee, examination fee, etc.

    • Reimbursement is subject to actuals and verification by the institution

  3. Study Tour Charges

    • Financial assistance for study tours up to a specified limit per annum

  4. Thesis and Printing Charges

    • For students pursuing postgraduate and research degrees

  5. Book Allowance for Correspondence Courses

    • Annual allowance to cover essential books and study material

  6. Additional Allowance for Students with Disabilities

    • Readers’ allowance, transport allowance, escort allowance, and special pay for hostel employees as applicable

Courses Covered

All recognized post-matriculation level courses in approved institutions:

  • Class 11 and 12

  • ITI and Polytechnic courses

  • Undergraduate and postgraduate programs (BA, BSc, BCom, MA, MSc, MCom, etc.)

  • Professional courses (Engineering, Medical, Law, Management)

  • M.Phil. and Ph.D.

How to Apply

  • Visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at https://scholarships.gov.in

  • Register as a new user and fill out the scholarship application form

  • Upload the required documents:

    • Caste certificate (ST)

    • Income certificate

    • Aadhaar card

    • Institution verification form

    • Previous academic mark sheets

    • Bank account details

  • Submit the application and track the status through the portal

Important Notes

  • Students must renew the scholarship every academic year by maintaining satisfactory progress and attendance

  • Incomplete applications or applications with incorrect documents will be rejected

  • Selection is subject to budget allocation and proper institutional verification
