Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY)

PM-AJAY (Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana) is a centrally sponsored umbrella scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The scheme aims to bring about the holistic development of Scheduled Castes (SCs) through integrated interventions in education, skill development, infrastructure, livelihood promotion, and social justice.

Launched by merging previous standalone schemes for better implementation, monitoring, and impact, PM-AJAY provides targeted support to enable SC communities to achieve socio-economic upliftment and dignity.

Objectives

Components of PM-AJAY

1. Development of SC-Dominated Villages into Model Villages (Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana – PMAGY)

  • Focuses on improving infrastructure like roads, sanitation, drinking water, schools, and community centers in villages with more than 50% SC population.

  • Ensures convergence of central and state schemes to enhance the overall quality of life.

2. Scholarships for SC Students

  • Includes Pre-Matric and Post-Matric Scholarships to promote education at all levels.

  • Financial assistance to reduce dropout rates and encourage higher education.

3. Hostel Facilities for SC Students

  • Construction and operation of hostels for boys and girls to ensure safe and conducive accommodation, enabling uninterrupted education.

4. Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Initiatives (Credit Enhancement Guarantee Scheme)

  • Financial assistance, soft loans, and capacity-building programs for SC entrepreneurs.

  • Encourages start-ups and small businesses within SC communities.

5. Grants for NGOs working for Scheduled Castes

  • Funding support to credible NGOs implementing projects aimed at SC welfare, such as education centers, skill training, and health services.

6. Awareness and Outreach Programs

  • Information dissemination on legal rights, government schemes, and provisions for SCs through workshops, camps, and media.
